Israel eliminates Fatah Sharif, Hamas chief in Lebanon linked to UNRWA

The terrorist group’s announcement came hours after the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a secular left-wing group, said that three of its members were killed in an attack on the Kola district of Beirut early Monday.

Israeli security forces reported the death of Fatah Sharif, a senior commander of the Hamas terrorist group who had been linked to the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). This operation was carried out in a context of growing tension in the region, where the Israeli authorities have intensified their actions against militant leaders.

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has confirmed this Monday the death of its leader in Lebanon, Fatah Sharif, alias ‘Abu al Amin’, in a bombing carried out by the Israeli Army against Lebanese territory, an event in which several members of his family have also died.

The group said that Sharif was also killed by his wife, Umaya Ibrahim Abdulhamid, his son Amin Fatah Sharif and his daughter Uafa Fatah Sharif, according to the Palestinian daily Filastin, which is linked to Hamas.

“Brother Abu Amin died as a martyr in the sacred battle of the ‘Flood of Al Aqsa’, in the path of the leaders of our movement of our martyred people, after a career dedicated to the service of the Palestinian people, their legitimate struggle and their just cause,” it concluded.

The official Lebanese agency ANI reported an air strike against the camp, near the southern city of Tyre, and said it was the “first time” that the site had been attacked.

Hamas’ announcement came hours after the secular left-wing Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said three of its members were killed in an attack on Beirut’s Kola district early Monday.

Since the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas broke out nearly a year ago, Israel has repeatedly targeted Hamas leaders in Lebanon.

Lebanese authorities on Sunday reported the deaths of at least 105 people in Israeli airstrikes that day, amid a surge in Israeli attacks over the past two weeks that has left hundreds dead and thousands wounded, as well as hundreds of thousands displaced.

The Israeli government has reiterated its commitment to continuing its operations against terrorism, while international reactions to these events remain the subject of analysis and discussion.
