The Colombian Navy reported on October 6 that they managed to rescue 16 migrants who were traveling on board a boat near the island of San Andrés, among whom were 4 Venezuelan minors.
Very close to the island of Albuquerque, in the waters of San Andrés and Providencia, the National Navy found a boat called “Yong King”, which on the night of last Saturday, October 5, was sailing with 16 migrants on board and 2 crew members.
According to the authorities, inside the boat they found 16 migrants among whom were seven adults and four Venezuelan minors, four Kosovars (from Kosovo) and one Cuban, who were trying to reach Central America to continue their journey to the United States and Canada.
Apparently, the boat was heading towards the Nicaraguan coast. It was 25 nautical miles from San Andrés to the south (…). Among the 16 migrants is a seven-month-old baby, who is the youngest we have found throughout the year, in terms of migrants,” said Frigate Captain Guillermo Lozano.
Regarding the two crew members, the National Navy said that they were two Colombians who were caught red-handed and will be charged with the crime of migrant trafficking.
