Mayor Roman Ruiz Bohorquez assassinated in the state of Oaxaca

An unknown person attacked the mayor of the Mexican municipality of Candelaria Loxicha, Román Ruíz Bohórquez, in the state of Oaxaca, who died early Tuesday morning, which represents the second murder of a municipal president in southern Mexico in less than ten days.

Local media reported that during the night of Monday, an unknown person attacked Ruíz Bohórquez with a knife in his house. He went to ask for help and died on the way to the hospital. The governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, confirmed the murder on his social networks, although without giving more details of the case, which is already under investigation.

“With deep sadness we announce the cowardly murder of our friend, colleague and municipal president, Professor Román Ruiz Bohórquez,” lamented the city council. The municipal president, elected under the local organization Planilla Blanca, was a professor at the Autonomous Communal University of Oaxaca (UACO), which condemned the homicide in a statement.

This is the second murder of a mayor in less than ten days in southern Mexico, where on October 6, opposition leader Alejandro Arcos, mayor of Chilpancingo, capital of Guerrero, was beheaded in an incident that has yet to be fully clarified.
