20 members of the Aragua Train arrested in a hotel in Texas

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported the arrest of about 20 suspects of belonging to the Tren de Aragua at the El Paso Gateway Hotel, located in Houston, Texas. The operation involved the closure of the establishment after reports of illegal activities.

Arrests of confirmed or suspected members of criminal gangs have occurred throughout the state, local channel Telemundo Houston reported.

Those arrested at the hotel are linked to human trafficking operations, prostitution and possession of illegal drugs, among other crimes. The DPS did not confirm the date of the arrests.

The El Paso County judge denied claims that those arrested are members of Tren de Aragua, according to Telemundo. He argued that they are part of the political campaign of Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

More arrests in Texas
At the beginning of the year alone, authorities arrested more than 100 alleged gang members in connection with the March 21, 2024 incident near Gate 36 in El Paso. At that time, they attempted to break into U.S. territory.

In the west of the state, another confirmed gang member was arrested for human trafficking. “In Houston, we have charges for drug-related crimes and human trafficking. There has also been an encounter with a law enforcement agency, but there was no arrest in that case,” the DPS reported.

In Dallas, 13 arrests were reported, including 4 in the city of Irving. “Many of those found in the Dallas area are for immigration violations, one was for robbery and another for evading arrest. There are some other encounters with the police that did not result in an arrest.”

The charges attributed to the arrests in Irving include aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and human trafficking.

“In South Texas, there is a charge of human trafficking, and then there have been several encounters with police that did not result in arrests. There have also been two arrests and an encounter in the San Antonio area,” authorities added in the statement.
