5 members of the Aragua Train captured

Eight raids were carried out that led to these arrests. Among those arrested are aliases ‘Bellaco’ and aliases ‘Francesca’, dangerous ringleaders.

In Bogotá, the fight against extortion and criminality does not stop. Under the comprehensive security strategy ‘Bogotá Camina Segura’ in the last hours the authorities managed to capture five dangerous members of the criminal structure ‘Tren de Aragua’, dedicated in the city to extortion, homicides and other multiple crimes.

On the morning of this Wednesday, October 16, 2024, the mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán, the commander of the Bogotá Police, José Daniel Gualdrón, and the Secretary of Security, Coexistence and Justice, César Restrepo, provided details and results against extortion and the ‘Tren de Aragua’.

“The fight against extortion in Bogotá is one of the priorities of this district Administration. With the police we have captured another five people linked to the so-called ‘Tren de Aragua’, who would be responsible for the grenade that was thrown a month ago on Avenida Ciudad de Cali concalle 38 sur,” said the mayor, Carlos Fernando Galán.

This is how Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán highlighted, through his account on the social network X, the operations that allowed the capture of these five dangerous members of the ‘Tren de Aragua’:

In this operation, alias ‘Bellaco’ was captured, allegedly responsible for the launch of a grenade on September 10, 2024, in the sector of Calle 38 Sur, Kennedy, which left two people dead and ten injured, including two police officers.

The operations, led by the Unified Action Group Against Personal Freedom – Gaula of the Police and the Bogotá Police Intelligence Section, in coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, took place within the framework of eight search and seizure operations in the towns of Kennedy, Antonio Nariño and Bosa.

Another of those captured was alias ‘Francesca’, successor of alias ‘Ratón’ who has been deprived of liberty since July of this year, and was dedicated to extorting women who engage in paid sexual activities in the 38th Street sector, charging them 100 thousand pesos a month. She and alias ‘Bellaco’ join the 178 arrested for extortion in Bogotá.

The investigation also allowed to determine that the alleged criminals extorted merchants and maintained control of the sale of narcotics in the main party areas of the Kennedy locality, and those who refused to pay the fee were prohibited from working in the sector and their families were threatened, or they exercised extreme violence against these people.

“We are dealing a decisive blow to the capture of criminals dedicated to extortion. Of those captured for this crime, 32 were part of the ‘Tren de Aragua’, the rest were part of common criminal groups,” said the commander of the Bogotá Police, José Daniel Gualdrón.

During these search and seizure proceedings, 2,200 grams of narcotics, seven cell phones, two firearms, a motorcycle and several extortion pamphlets were also seized. During the materialization of the search and seizure proceedings, the alleged criminals were dosing narcotics for sale in the town of Kennedy.

“This is a great result for the Bogotá Police and the Attorney General’s Office and we will continue to do so to overcome extortion in Bogotá,” added Mayor Galán.

Finally, the Secretary of Security, Coexistence and Justice, César Restrepo, recalled that operations have been carried out in different critical areas of the city and in the TransMilenio corridor to unexpectedly fall on crime zones.

“Here the important thing is that no criminal in the city feels calm, because the disorder in Bogotá is ending and will end,” he said.

So far in 2024, the Bogotá Police have captured 5,078 people for trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics and 178 people for extortion in the capital.
