Biden and Trump meet at the White House

A brief meeting in which they shook hands and thanked each other for the opportunity. The president had planned to receive his successor at the White House to symbolize the peaceful and orderly transfer of power, a courtesy that Trump did not extend to Biden after losing in 2020.

Two opposing politicians faced each other, who have disqualified each other. Trump, resorting to insults; Biden, presenting his successor as a threat to democracy.

The current president, however, has not hesitated to facilitate the transition, although to a large extent it will mean reversing many of his policies and eroding his legacy.

Both have shaken hands and even smiled knowingly while the journalists present shouted questions before the two leaders were left alone.

Biden, who spoke first, called for a smooth transition. Trump then said that politics is difficult and thanked Biden for a smooth transition. “Politics is not always pleasant, but it was today,” Trump said. Biden replied: “You’re welcome.”

Neither of them answered questions from reporters.

Nothing has yet emerged about the content of the meeting. Biden was expected to point out to the Republican the importance of not abandoning Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression, according to the national security adviser, Jake Sullivan. The most important thing about the meeting was to convey the message that the outgoing Administration will cooperate with the incoming one in the transfer of power.
