Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that her government’s position is based on constitutional principles of respect for the free “self-determination of peoples” regarding the crisis in Venezuela.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that she will be “impartial” regarding the situation in Venezuela after the presidential elections on July 28.
“There was a call from the three countries (Colombia, Brazil and Mexico) after the election in Venezuela for the results to be transparent. From now on we are going to remain, let’s say, impartial regarding this,” Sheinbaum responded at her morning press conference.
“Colombia has a position, Brazil has a position, the United States has a position and we are going to have the constitutional position,” she stressed.
The 1945 United Nations Charter
Makes clear a universal concept that has been ratified by the 192 member states, and that compliance is extremely mandatory.
Article 1.2 stipulates that “friendly relations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and the self-determination of peoples should be fostered among nations, and other appropriate measures should be taken to strengthen universal peace.”
Under this UN concept, the new Mexican government will maintain an “impartial” stance in the face of the Venezuelan crisis.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has declared that Mexico will adopt a position of respect for the government of Nicolás Maduro, emphasizing that the Mexican Constitution clearly establishes “the principle of the independence of peoples.”
Claudia Sheinbaum again emphasized “Our constitutional framework precisely defines our foreign policy, which is based on respect for the independence of the people.”
