Tapachula. – For 5 consecutive days, migrants have packed the famous bicentennial park on the southern border and in the same way thousands of migrants have attended to be placed on a protection petition list with the purpose of trying to obtain a humanitarian visa in the following days.
According to human rights defender Luis Garcia Villagran, the purpose of these meetings is to try to arouse more requests for protection in order to deliver them as soon as possible at the next dialogue table with the National Migration Institute (INAMI).
The director of the center for human dignity, Luis Villagran, told us about the amount that is already collected in a matter of protection petition forms and also the amount that could be collected if for some reason the Mexican authorities do not grant humanitarian visas.
“So far there have been more than 7,000 requests for protection, if this continues, we could reach up to 10,000 by the end of this week, we need to be heard, and if this is not resolved in the following days, we will have no other option but to walk.”
It is expected that in the following days the human rights defender will have a dialogue table with directors of the Mexican authorities in order to reach an agreement and the humanitarian visas will be delivered as soon as possible so that the last option is to walk in a caravan.
