Director of the Venezuelan Diaspora Observatory, Tomás Páez, said that about a third of the Venezuelan population has moved further from the border.
The director of the Venezuelan Diaspora Observatory, Tomás Páez, said that approximately 9 million Venezuelans are distributed in 90 countries and the number “continues to grow.”
In this regard, he noted that the latest study carried out by the Venezuelan Diaspora Observatory indicated that 68% of Venezuelans are thinking of emigrating.
Páez specified that this data “is consistent with the findings of other research and studies carried out by private companies and by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).”
He said that the Latin American countries that have welcomed Venezuelans have given “hospitality, have welcomed Venezuelans without passports, with ID cards and expired documents, and have tried to develop regularization policies.”
He also emphasized on Union Radio that there are around 600,000 Venezuelans in Brazil and pointed out that in general, “the treatment has been one of hospitality versus the hostile policies against migrants that you get in some countries where the diaspora originates.”
He celebrated the welcoming initiatives of different countries for Venezuelan migrants, even when they do not have a passport, ID card or their documents are expired. For example in Colombia.
It should be noted that the Venezuelan Diaspora Observatory (ODV) and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation reported on May 14 that the Venezuelan diaspora is made up of almost 9 million people.
The study, titled “Diaspora, politics and citizen participation,” highlighted that the majority of Venezuelans abroad maintain strong ties with the country, which includes encouraging participation for political change in Venezuela.
Although the majority of the diaspora was unable to participate in the presidential elections due to not being able to change their residence, 88% of Venezuelans abroad were willing to vote on July 28 from their country of residence.
