This electric flying taxi project is part of a technological and sustainability plan led by the Dubai Government.
Dubai is looking closer to the future, as by 2026, it will have its first fleet of electric flying taxis, which could revolutionize urban mobility in that city.
These vehicles will offer faster trips, will be able to reach a speed of up to 320 kilometers per hour and will transport a maximum of 4 people.
Khaled Al Awadhi, director of the city’s transportation department, highlighted at the Intelligent Transportation Systems World Congress (ITS World Congress) that 4 takeoff and landing stations will be installed.
One of the connection points will be located at Dubai International Airport (DBX) and will extend to important areas such as Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Marina and Dubai Downtown.
One of the goals of flying taxis is to minimize travel time, since you could get from the airport to a hotel on Palm Jumeirah in 12 minutes, when the normal time is 45 minutes.
These vehicles, being electric, will not only reduce polluting emissions, but will also help to ease traffic congestion in the busiest locations, according to FayerWayer.
Other cities are preparing
Flying taxis will debut in the skies of the United States and then in Dubai, marking the beginning of a new era in urban mobility.
Other cities around the world are preparing to adopt electric flying taxis in the coming years, including Milan, in Italy, and Paris, in France.
